Study: Asthma Diagnosis among 9/11 Rescue and Recovery Workers
In a study released in the August 27th on-line edition of Environmental Health Perspectives, researchers analyzed 2003 – 2004 interview data from the World Trade Center Health Registry for workers who did not have asthma prior to 9/11, estimating the risk of newly diagnosed asthma and its association with World Trade Center work history. Findings showed that newly diagnosed asthma was reported by 926 of the 25,000 workers in the registry (3.6%) and this was significantly associated with increased exposure to the World Trade Center disaster site. The authors note that the findings are based on self-reporting by those answering their survey questions. To view the full article visit http://www.ehponline.org/members/2007/10248/10248.pdf.
