Study: Use of Asthma Action Plans in Schools
In an article published in the June 2007 edition of The Journal of School Nursing, researchers reported on the results of a pilot study to determine the effectiveness of an intervention to increase the number of Asthma Action Plans in schools for students with asthma by having school nurses provide the students’ peak flow measurements to their primary care provider with a request for an Asthma Action Plan. Results showed a significant increase in Asthma Action Plans when school nurses provided primary care providers with accurate peak flow data and requested an Asthma Action Plan from the provider than when nurses requested the Asthma Action Plan via the students’ parents.
