Resource: Slum Housing and the Critical Threat to Health white paper
In April 2007, the Better Neighborhoods, Same Neighbors Collaborative (which includes St. John’s Well Child and Family Center, Esperanza Community Housing Corporation, Strategic Actions for a Just Economy, and the Los Angeles Community Action Network) released a white paper that reflected seven years of collaborative work between community health care providers, health promoters, and tenant and community organizers. The report includes information on the health costs of L.A.’s slum housing crisis, who bears the health burden of the crisis, the business model of criminal slumlords and their impact on public health, and proposals to address this health crisis. For more information about the paper contact Jim Mangia at 323-541-1660 x. 4000 or via e-mail at jimmangia@wellchild.org.
