Study: Emergency department intervention can help manage pediatric asthma
Research released from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in November 2006 finds that early and consistent education during and after a visit to the emergency department is the key to successful long-term management of pediatric asthma. As part of a national initiative to monitor trends in pediatric asthma and asthma care, emergency department-based interventions were implemented in order to provide education and create sustainable strategies for dealing with asthma in the emergency department. At one study site, educational intervention reduced emergency department visits for asthma by forty percent.
