Asthma Controller Medications
Inhaled Corticosteroids which are very effective in treating the swelling in the airways and have few side effects.
Cromlyn Sodium/Nedocromil Sodium work by reducing swelling in the airways and must be taken at regular intervals every day, up to four times daily.
Leukotriene Modifiers comes in the form of a pill and reduces swelling in the airways in the lungs.
Long Acting Beta agonists are similar to quick relief medications but start working slower and last longer and should only be used with other long-term medications, never alone.
Oral Corticosteroids are usually taken for a few days after a severe asthma episode and come in the form of pills or syrup.
