The California Department of Health Services (DHS) has recently approved an asthma action plan for schools and families, as required by the new law (AB 2132, effective 1/1/05).
The DHS Asthma Action Plan, now with a proper parent/caregiver consent statement with release of school and school district liability (bottom of page one), can be downloaded free of charge at: http://www.caasthma.org/pdf/3182_Plan_final.pdf
In partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District, the Asthma Action Plan has been translated into Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Armenian. These versions will be available at: http://www.caasthma.org
In addition, a related resource is now available to help local asthma coalitions and other community members who work with schools to understand the content and implications of AB 2132, a new law which went into effect in California as of January 1, 2005 that allows students in California schools to carry and self administer their own asthma medication.
