Resource: Heber Tree Project in the Imperial Valley
The Clean Air Initiative is partnering with El Centro Regional Medical Center Asthma Program to coordinate the Heber Tree Project at schools in the Imperial Valley. The program being proposed will include an educational dramatization of what to do and not to do when someone is having an asthma episode, a lesson on the importance of trees on air quality, and conclude with a tree planting ceremony. This program will focus on the seventh and eighth grade students and educational packets on asthma and air quality will be given to the students and teachers. It is proposed that 15 trees will be donated to the school for the students to plant the day of this event. The American Lung Association recommends that low allergy trees be planted in order to avoid triggering asthma or allergy episodes. However, the choice of type of tree and location of trees is the choice of the school. For more information or to get your Imperial Valley school involved, please contact Monique Lopez at 760-355-8797.
