GENERAL

1) Event: AAIDD teleconference on Indoor Air Quality and Health, February 12th

The American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) is hosting a one-hour teleconference on the topic of Indoor Air Quality and Health. Dr. John Spengler from the Harvard School of Public Health’s Department of Environmental Health will be presenting and the teleconference will take place on February 12th at 2pm Eastern Time. The seminar will provide participants with a brief summary of the current understanding of ambient air pollution health concerns, a characterization of the public and private responses to indoor air quality, and an overview of contemporary topics such as molds and synthetic organic compounds and how they illustrate the continuing concerns about the health of indoor environments. 2) Event: Diesel Emissions Reductions Funding Opportunities Webcast, February 20th

The West Coast Collaborative is hosting a webcast on February 20th at 1:30pm (Pacific Time) in order to highlight various funding opportunities that will be available in the coming months under the EPA Clean Diesel Program. The Diesel Emission Reduction Act authorized $200 million per year for five years for the implementation of diesel emission reduction projects. The EPA Clean Diesel Program recently received approximately $50 million in Fiscal Year 2008 funding under this authorization. 3) Call for Abstracts: Association of Asthma Educators Annual Conference

The Association of Asthma Educators (AAE) has released a Call for Abstracts for their annual conference which will be taking place in San Mateo on July 18 – 21. Poster abstracts may report an asthma education program evaluation, device and technical evaluation, or a drug clinical trial. Submissions are due April 15th. 4) Event: Pediatric Asthma Forum in Oakland, March 13th

The 2008 Pediatric Asthma Forum, presented by Children’s Hospital and Research Center Oakland, in partnership with the Regional Asthma Management and Prevention (RAMP) Initiative, will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Oakland Airport Hilton. This day long event will focus on the revised NHLBI Asthma Guidelines and other components of asthma control and is intended for asthma providers and educators working in hospital, clinic, school, or home settings. Forum highlights include sessions on the revised NHLBI guidelines, an asthma treatment update, asthma disparities, accessing community based resources, and environmental asthma triggers. The Forum will also include hands-on demonstrations with asthma devices and asthma medication question and answer sessions. 5) Event: National Pesticide Forum in Berkeley, March 14th

“Reclaiming Our Healthy Future: Political change to protect the next generation”, the 26th National Pesticide Forum, will be held March 14-16 at the University of California, Berkeley. This event is convened by Beyond Pesticides, Californians for Pesticide Reform (CPR) and Pesticide Action Network North America (PANNA). The days will be filled with informative workshops, skills trainings, and opportunities to network with pesticide and toxics reform activists from across California, the U.S., and the world. Conference topics include: children’s health and public policy, farmworker justice, organizing and consumer action, managing indoor environments, the power of local activism to influence political change, and much more.
