Diesel Policy Win
Thanks to the advocacy efforts of CAFA and other advocates, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has now mandated that diesel engine manufacturers who produced faulty engines that were designed to pass emissions tests but then pollute far more once they were on the road must fix these engines by the end of 2005. The regulation includes a provision that ensures that the costs will not be passed on to truck drivers.

Articles note that this decision could "ripple across the country" since the US EPA struggles with the same enforcement problem with engine manufacturers who produced these defective engines. CARB estimates that this regulation will prevent around 30 tons a day of diesel pollution -- the equivalent of removing 1 million cars from California highways.
