|
| To prevent and control asthma in San Mateo County by promoting change and collaboration at the individual, institutional, community, and policy level through education, awareness, empowerment, and advocacy. |

Objectives
|
San Mateo County Asthma Coalition Goals
The coalition’s four subcommittees address the following goals and the interaction between them, including communication between patient/family, health care providers, school, and child care centers:
Community/Families Increase the ability of communities and families to address their housing needs surrounding asthma.
Schools Collaborate with school districts to address the needs of students with asthma asthma through staff training, environmental measures, and improved communication systems.
Childcare Collaborate with child care organizations and child care providers to address the needs of children with asthma through environmental measures, staff training and improved communication systems.
Clinical Care Improve the ability of health care providers and their funders (health insurance) to identify and address the needs of adults and children with asthma, focusing on national guidelines including self management and communication systems. |

Regularly Scheduled Meetings
|
| San Mateo County Asthma Coalition meetings are held quarterly, alternating between locations in South San Francisco and Belmont. Partners share activities, resources and ideas at quarterly meetings. The next meeting is scheduled October 16, 2007, in Belmont.
