Sonoma County Asthma Coalition
|

|
|
Mission
|
In response to the growing local concern about asthma, the Sonoma County Asthma Coalition was formed in conjunction with the American Lung Association of California Santa Rosa office in 2002. There are approximately 30 organizations and individuals currently involved and working on two subcommittees: Schools Committee and Air Quality and Housing Committee.
The Sonoma County Asthma Coalition's mission is to work with key stakeholders to improve the quality of life of people affected by asthma and to advocate for policies to minimize the impact of asthma in Sonoma County. |
| |
|
Objectives
|
Key Priorities:
- Promote community education and awareness around the issues of asthma.
- Work to reduce the indoor/outdoor environmental factors that are asthma triggers.
- Encourage best practices and access to good health care for people with asthma.
- Implement data collection and analysis about asthma prevalence.
Objectives:
Schools:
Institutionalize use of environmental trigger strategies in a minimum of three school districts by June 2008
Housing:
1) Local landlords housing developers will adopt a policy to reduce at least one environmental trigger for asthma at a minimum of three low-income multi-unit housing sites by June 2008
2) A local building department will commit to adoption of policy change that will address indoor air quality in low income multi unit housing. For example, a city ordinance protecting multi-unit housing dwellers from secondhand smoke, or a city ordinance requiring new multi unit low income housing developments to meet green building standards by June 2008.
