Solano Asthma Coalition

Mission
The mission of the Solano Asthma Coalition (SAC) is to reduce the burden of asthma and to improve the quality of life of people with asthma and their families in Solano County. Through collaboration with health care providers, policy makers, educators, and community members we intend to raise awareness of people with asthma and their families about the goals of asthma treatment and strategies to control asthma and to change the institutional, environmental, cultural, and individual factors that influence the incidence, prevalence, and severity of asthma in Solano County.

The vision of the Solano Asthma Coalition is that Solano County will be a community where people with asthma live in a healthy environment and have the capacity to enjoy full participation in all activities regardless of their disease.

Objectives
By June 2008, 10 targeted schools will have implemented policy or procedural changes to improve IAQ, based on at least one element of the Tools for Schools (TfS) program.

By June 2008, through the support and resources of the Solano Asthma Coalition, a minimum of two (2) Solano County school districts will have added an asthma segment to their Wellness Policy to address asthma education, asthma management, and indoor/outdoor air quality.

By June 2008, at least 10 targeted schools will have a program whereby Parent Teachers Associations, school bus monitors or other group to be determined will monitor and implement adherence to the no bus or truck idling regulation within 100 feet of the school.

By June 2008, wood burning appliance ordinances will be adopted in five Solano County cities and at County level.
