RAMP Objectives
|
RAMP is currently funded to lead two core sets of activities. With funding from The California Endowment, RAMP leads coordination of the statewide Community Action to Fight Asthma (CAFA) Network. Additionally, in its tradition of serving as a Bay Area regional collaborative, RAMP supports all asthma coalitions in the San Francisco Bay Area and leads regional activities on topics such as asthma in schools and asthma and the environment, with funding from The California Wellness Foundation, the San Francisco Foundation, and the California Endowment.
Aside from specific grant objectives, RAMP works on an ongoing basis to reduce the burden of asthma and promote a regional model of collaboration in the following ways:
Share innovative models and approaches across the region
As the only organization consistently involved in all asthma programs and groups across the region, RAMP is uniquely positioned to collect and disseminate information and serve as a liaison among different asthma projects. RAMP shares innovative models and approaches across the region, thus decreasing duplication of efforts and optimizing the use of limited local resources. RAMP also serves as the "hub" of asthma information and resources in the Bay Area through a website, regular e-mail updates, and an asthma library.
Build a wealth of knowledge to provide effective technical assistance to local asthma programs
We assist coalitions with strategic planning, grant-writing, budget development, program implementation, evaluation, and other problem-solving.
Provide opportunities for networking and capacity-building
RAMP ensures that health departments, health plans, community-based organizations, hospitals, government agencies, providers, environmental health and justice groups, and community members are connected and working together to most effectively address asthma. RAMP provides opportunities for networking and capacity-building through regional workshops and meetings. For example, we provide monthly workshops for Community Health Outreach Workers, providing an opportunity for both education and networking.
Identify areas most effectively addressed regionally
RAMP facilitates the identification of issues and policies that will benefit from regional (and ultimately statewide) collaboration, and takes the lead on such regional initiatives. Most public health issues, especially those with an environmental and demographic dimension, do not follow county lines and are best addressed regionally. RAMP's regional efforts also optimize limited resources. For example, we have pooled expertise and financial resources to create provider tools used across the region.
Connect local, county, and regional issues
Recognizing that asthma is a complex chronic disease that must be addressed on multiple levels, RAMP uses a multi-tiered approach. RAMP supports community-based efforts, where organizations and residents collectively address local concerns in their communities, which are disproportionately impacted by asthma. RAMP also supports county-level activities, where organizations and agencies address asthma through policy and organizational changes. RAMP then brings together people from across the state
